Welcome Visitor Package for New Family
This is the time of year when the question “Will you marry me?” gets asked. After all the congratulations and well wishes, then the planning begins. Well, after both of the families meet up to get to know each other. Sometimes, events or distance, prevents families from meeting up right away during the courtship.
This was such the case with us but I want to share a wonderful idea that the future son-in-law’s family did for us to make us feel welcomed as we begin merging our families. We had never traveled or vacationed in the area, so much was unknown about the location. Here is a lovely gift idea for your future family meetings. A welcome visitor package.
Now a welcome visitor package does not have to be expensive and the information is so valuable to a novice family new to the area. Here are some items that can help new family feel like they have been living in the area forever and a day.
Start the package off with a greeting and an itinerary of the events. This helps everyone to know when, where, and what to expect. Any special details, such as, what to bring or how to dress for the event(s). Meeting the family is a very nervous time. Will they like us? Will we have anything in common? What should we talk about? It is even more important to the new couple that the families get along too, so they are anxious that the meeting goes well.
Other items to include are any local maps of the town and state map. It is so easy to get lost when the GPS service does not work in the new area. Nothing worse than thinking it will take you fifteen minutes and you arrive an hour later. Talk about blowing first impressions.
What to eat? Include a list of restaurants and areas of interest. No matter how great you think Grandma’s casserole is to you, it might not be well received by the picky eater. This gives guests an option to fill their bellies up without being rude. It also helps decide where and how to get to, if a restaurant is the location of the meeting or event later.
Include a small bit of trivia is fun too. A short “did you know…”about the town, helps guest to feel like they are a local and not an outside. Include any slang such as soda verse pop for beverages and other “in” terms used in the area. If your area has collected local recipes in a cookbook, any local teams of interest, or something only found in your area, add it to the package. Especially if the area has a popular item that the region is known for and tourist love. Nothing like getting dibs on something that locals can get that tourist can’t. Talk about win-win.
I will have to say our welcome visitor package was a very enjoyable surprise when we arrived. Our welcome visitor package was waiting for us at our hotel when we arrived and was one of the highlights of our trip looking over all the interesting and cool information included. I also have no regrets about eating all the local grown pecans (pea-cans) covered in chocolate by myself. Included is a picture of all our goodies from our welcome visitor package. Have fun and congratulations to your new family members!
