Gen 65 Social media and networking age groups
Now that social media is here to stay and they are encouraging youngsters to learn code, how do we help our 65 and older folks?
Now, to be fair there are two classed of Gen 65 and older. The 65-85 and the 86 and up. Currently called Baby Boomers and Silents depend on which media source citing the terms.
Now many Gen 86 and up may still be living in their own homes with the same dial up phone if they can get away with it. Some have embraced technology and up graded to a touch dial up.
The younger 65 to 85 group may be a bit more on the cutting edge of technology. This may be because they have grandchildren that have helped them grasp the basics of a computer or at least how to get on Facebook. This way they can see pictures and keep in touch with those not living nearby.
This does not mean they are going to be hip on scheduling their appointment with the provider online. Currently, statics say only 6% total of population are booking their appointments online now. So this generation will still be dialing in to schedule and they do not want to talk to a computer or push one for English. They also screen their calls. Go ahead and leave a message. Speak slowly and clearly. Leave your information. Many have hearing problems and the telephone makes it hard to hear what you are saying.
