Assertive Women Wanted.
This evening I attended a Women’s Graphic Art Panel at the Miami University Hamilton Campus. Six very educated women sat on the panel discussing their artwork and tools of the trade. Discussion include various art styles and promoting their work.
I then asked a simple question. “Did being a woman give you an advantage?” Only one out of the six panel group of women said that it did not matter what her sex was. The other five made comments regarding difficulty getting in the market and the lack of assertiveness training for women.
There is nothing wrong with being assertive and asking for what is rightfully yours. In general women are taught to be quite and reserve. This leads to women not asserting themselves in the work force and asking for more money, better job equality, and better legislation.
Currently, another predominantly women’s group, Nurse Practitioners are asserting Nurse Practitioner organizations to improve pay, job equality, and better laws to improve health care for every US citizen.
