Why to drink hot tea and honey?
In today’s busy world there is not a lot of downtime for being sick or taking time to rest. It is a go, go, go world now. Many are traveling, working while traveling, and attending meetings. Then out of nowhere the icky feeling begins creeping up.
For those with general miserable feelings and sore throats due to speaking, meetings, and traveling in polluted areas, there is a drink that can be helpful. A hot cup of tea with honey. Why is this so amazing?
Tea comes in various forms. Tea is hot water over tea leaves to activate the tea, creating a drink. The tea leaves are not consumed but drinking the hot water flavored with tea is. Tea contains caffeine and depending on brand or type, the amount of caffeine will range from 11 to 90 mg of caffeine per 250 ml. This is the standard 8 ounce serving. The Food and Drug Administration classifies caffeine as generally recognized as safe (GRAS). Caffeine acts on the central nervous system as a metabolic stimulant. This is why it can reduce drowsiness, decrease fatigue, and help with airway stimulation.
Honey contains simple sugars that break down in the body to give it energy and is considered an electrolyte. Honey is also considered an antibacterial agent. Eating local honey to the region will help build up immunity for those staying in a region for a longer period of time.
Therefore, drinking hot tea with honey will help boost alertness and immunity, calm sore throats, and open airway passages. An excellent drink for those on the go.
Caution. Honey should not be given to children under one year of age. Hot drinks should be used with caution in all ages to prevent burns.
