As over 50,000 bodies arrived for four days of gaming, 100,000+ feet hit the ground to see all the events and exhibits. As those feet pounded the pavement, blisters, sore feet, and shoe failure began.
The flooring beneath those feet ranged from concrete to carpet. The types of shoes ranged from cosplay shoes of all dimensions to a really good pair of "tenny" runners.
Walking properly will prevent a lot of foot injuries. The recommendation is a heel toe style of walking.
Shoes recommended are those formatted for walking/standing. The padding in these type of shoes help support the body's posture and prevents pain.
Convention goers need to be careful with flip flop style shoes as the straps can injure or break the 5th metatarsal in the feet. High heels are cited as the cause of many lower back injuries.
Proper balance of diet can prevent hands and pedal edema from standing with no elevation of limbs. The biggest contributor is the high amount of sodium in gaming food and drinks.
Hydration is another important factor. Increasing water intake can help keep the mind alert, sodium concentrations lower, and passing out in summer heat.
No attendee should roll a Legendary 1 on a d20 when it comes to having fun at GENCON
