Thanksgiving Dealing with Family
It happens to everyone. The inappropriate question. Often said by well-meaning family but just happens to be said at the worst possible time.
Several ways to handle it.
Ignore it. Move on to another topic.
Validate it. Mom, that question is inappropriate for right now. How about we talk about it after dessert?
Address it. Take the bull by the horns and go there. Let it all hang out and why. Often not necessary but will certainly make for a darn good memory later and hopefully everyone can laugh then.
Just remember, that everyone is responsible for their actions and what they say, regardless if they have had too much turkey or beverage that loosened their tongue. If an apology is necessary, get on with it and move on. No need creating a great divide that will render future holiday events dreading Ghost of Christmas Future. Just be responsible and be an adult when needed.
