Thanksgiving: Over the River
It is that time again! Over the River and to Thanksgiving at Grandma’s house. Great! The kids are in the car, the food is in the trunk, and then on the way to Grandma’s things happen.
The car breaks down.
So let us rewind a bit. Before everyone got in the car, did we do other things before we put our covered dishes in the car?
Long term car care keeps the car running. Keeping the oil changed, the tires inflated correctly, and gas in the car keeps it running.
Short term, weather can cause us to be delayed or late.
Is there enough blankets in the car?
What about a jar of peanut butter. Peanut butter can be used for many things besides keeping the kids happy in the backseat. It can be used to remove bolts. Handy if you can’t get a tire off or need to fix something under the hood.
A candle and matches. A small lit candle will keep a car warm for emergency needs. Windows need to be open slightly to allow for fresh air intake and prevention of carbon moxoxide.
Cell phone charger? Helpful if the cell is dying.
Map. Oh, those old things? I’ve got my GPS on my…dying cell phone…with no service. Sometimes it is worth it to print out directions on the way there or keep a map in the car for those terrible moments when you realize Grandma’s hometown still doesn’t have a cell tower yet. Well, at least you know what you need to get her for Christmas now.
May your over the river trip be safe this year!
