Appointment Time Starts Now!
Question: When does my appointment start?
Answer: The schedule time of your appointment begins at the time stated. If your appointment starts at 2 pm, it is 2 pm.
Why? The appointment time is with the provider. If you are late, the time is already ticking. If you need to fill out paperwork, then you need to do this first. If you need to show your ID and insurance cards, then this needs to be done before the appointment. If there are any papers that need to be filled out, then this needs to be done so the information can be entered into the computer or data base.
This may be followed by a short meeting with an assistant who will take your vital signs and list any medications into the computer or data base. Then you will be escorted to a room to see the provider. Or the provider will take this information should there not be an assistant.
Solution? Show up 15 minutes early to get any paperwork completed, forms filled out, ID and insurance information exchange completed. This helps cut out wait time for seeing the provider.
Delays: Computers and data bases can become bogged down with lots of users and if the machine gets hot. Patients can also cause delays be not being ready or prepared for the visit. Did you bring your list or bottles of medicine? Do you need to remove several layers of clothes to find your arm to place a blood pressure cuff? Patients with list of requests and just one more questions, can cause a thoughtful provider to run behind. If you need longer for an appointment, request the time. You may be asked to keep your questions limited to the top two or three major problems and reschedule for a lengthy list of questions.
Waiting? You may not be waiting on the provider, the provider may be waiting on you.
